Migori head into the clash buoyed by a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Michael Olunga Football Academy in the South Nyanza derby last weekend,
The battle for promotion in the National Super League resumes on Sunday, 17 May, with seven fixtures lined up to conclude the highly decisive Round 33 encounters, as the race for a place in next season’s FKF Premier League gathers momentum.
Focus will firmly be on promotion hopefuls Migori Youth, Mombasa United and Equity FC, who all head into the weekend carrying huge ambitions in a title race that is increasingly becoming difficult to predict, with only a handful of matches left before the curtain falls on the campaign.

Attention will first shift to Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County, where Fortune Sacco host league contenders Migori Youth in what promises to be a pulsating contest.
Migori head into the clash buoyed by a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Michael Olunga Football Academy in the South Nyanza derby last weekend, but the pressure has intensified significantly following 3K FC’s 2-1 victory over Kibera Black Stars on Saturday, a result that temporarily pushed the Embu-based side to the summit of the standings.
With the title race now delicately poised, Migori know anything short of victory could hand their rivals a major advantage in the race for automatic promotion.
Maximum points would see the Migori-based outfit reclaim top spot and, more importantly, open a three-point cushion over a red-hot 3K FC side currently enjoying a brilliant winning run.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Migori Youth striker Syphas Otieno acknowledged the magnitude of the tie, terming it a must-win fixture despite the anticipated challenge.
“We are going to face one of the toughest sides in the league and equally one that is difficult to break down at their home ground. We are therefore expecting a tough test, but we have to grind out the desired result because this is a must-win match for us to keep our dreams alive,” Otieno told Mozzart Sport.
Having triumphed in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, Migori will also be eyeing a league double over Fortune Sacco.
However, Sammy Otulo’s charges are expected to face a stern challenge against a Fortune side desperate to bounce back from their painful 2-1 defeat to 3K FC in the Majirani Derby.
Before that setback, the Kirinyaga-based outfit had enjoyed a remarkable run of ten matches unbeaten, a form they will undoubtedly draw inspiration from as they seek to upset the promotion chasers.
Coached by Vincent Nyaberi, Fortune Sacco currently sit 11 points behind third-placed Mombasa United, leaving their hopes of securing top-flight football hanging by a thread.
Nonetheless, victory on Sunday would narrow that gap to eight points and potentially ignite a late push for promotion, however slim those chances may appear.
The microfinance-sponsored side will also be motivated by the desire to avenge their first-leg defeat to Migori in what is shaping up to be one of the standout fixtures of the weekend.
From Kirinyaga, attention will then move to the Coast, where Mombasa United welcome Nairobi City Stars at Mombasa Sports Club in another crucial fixture with major implications in the promotion race.
Mombasa United will be seeking an immediate response after suffering a humiliating 3-0 defeat to FC Talanta last weekend, a result that dealt a huge blow to both their title and promotion aspirations.
That defeat saw Peter Okidi’s side surrender valuable ground in the race for FKF Premier League football, leaving them three points behind the league leaders heading into Sunday’s encounter.
Currently sitting third on the table, the coastal side know another slip-up could significantly damage their promotion hopes, especially with fellow contenders Equity FC also in action.
Adding extra motivation for Mombasa United is the fact that they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Nairobi City Stars in the first leg, a result they will be eager to overturn on home soil.
With 3K FC currently sitting joint top on 68 points, victory for Mombasa United would see them climb level on points at the summit should Migori Youth fail to win in Kirinyaga.
However, Nairobi City Stars are expected to provide stiff opposition despite enduring a disappointing campaign.
The Kawangware-based side have already seen their hopes of an immediate return to the FKF Premier League fade away, but with no relegation fears either, they will head into the clash with little pressure and every motivation to spoil Mombasa’s ambitions.
With crucial points on the line, Sunday’s contest at the Coast is expected to produce another thrilling chapter in the increasingly dramatic NSL promotion race.
Elsewhere, Equity FC will host Kisumu All Stars at Mashuuru Complex in Kajiado County in yet another fixture loaded with significance at both ends of the table.
The Bankers head into the match riding on a rich vein of form, having won their last three matches while remaining unbeaten in their last ten outings.
That impressive run has firmly thrust John Kamara Mbweza’s side into serious promotion contention in their debut National Super League campaign.
Currently fourth in the standings with 63 points, Equity know victory would lift them to 66 points, potentially leapfrogging Mombasa United and moving them within touching distance of the summit should results elsewhere favour them.
Despite their impressive momentum, Equity are expected to face a difficult challenge against a Kisumu All Stars side battling for survival.
The Kisumu-based outfit sit 15th on the table with 31 points, only two places above the relegation zone, and remain far from safe with the season nearing its conclusion.
Failure to secure positive results in the remaining matches could drag them into the drop zone, making Sunday’s fixture a must-win encounter for the lakeside club.
Victory for the Mozzart Bet-sponsored side would move them to 34 points and open a crucial five-point cushion above the relegation places.
With Equity chasing promotion and Kisumu fighting to preserve their NSL status, the clash sets the stage for a fiercely contested encounter in Kajiado.
In other matches scheduled for Sunday, relegation-threatened Mully Children’s Family (MCF) will take on Nzoia Sugar at Ndalani Complex in a match of huge importance for the church-sponsored side.
MCF desperately need maximum points to boost their survival hopes, while former FKF Premier League side Nzoia Sugar will be aiming to finish the season strongly despite falling out of promotion contention.
At Mumboha Grounds, Luanda Villa will host Mwatate United in another crucial relegation battle.
Victory for Luanda Villa would see them move to 39 points and open an 11-point gap above the danger zone, while Mwatate United know three points could significantly strengthen their survival hopes by moving them to 28 points, just one point shy of safety.
Meanwhile, Kabati FC will face FC Talanta in Thika in a clash carrying significance for both sides.
A win for Kabati would lift them to 32 points and potentially move them four points clear of the relegation zone, while FC Talanta will be seeking to strengthen their push for a respectable top-half finish after missing out on an immediate return to the FKF Premier League.
